Overview
Shadow Ban is a Gmail add-on that manages email filters on your behalf. It operates entirely within your Gmail account and does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data externally.
Data Collection
Shadow Ban does not collect any data. Specifically:
- No email content is read beyond sender addresses and headers needed to create filters
- No data is sent to external servers
- No analytics or tracking code is included
- No personal information is gathered
Gmail Access
Shadow Ban requires the following Gmail permissions to function. All actions happen within your own Gmail account:
- Filter management — To create and delete Gmail filters that move emails from banned senders out of your inbox
- Label access — To create and manage the "Unsubscribe" label where filtered emails are stored
- Message access — To search for and move existing emails from banned senders when you ban them
- Add-on execution — To run the add-on within Gmail's sidebar
- Message metadata — To read the sender address and subject of the email you're currently viewing
- Message content — To detect List-Unsubscribe headers for identifying subscription emails
Local Storage
Shadow Ban uses Gmail's built-in PropertiesService to store the list of banned sender addresses. This data stays within your Google account and is never transmitted externally.
Third Parties
Shadow Ban does not share any data with third parties. The add-on communicates only with Gmail's own APIs within your account.
