Privacy Policy - Now Playing on Spotify

The Short Version

Now Playing on Spotify does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. The app runs entirely on your Mac and communicates only with the Spotify desktop app installed on your computer.

Data Collection

Now Playing on Spotify collects no data whatsoever. Specifically:

No personal information
No usage analytics
No crash reports
No account information
No listening history

How the App Works

The app uses macOS Automation (AppleScript) to ask the Spotify desktop app what track is currently playing. This communication happens entirely on your Mac between the two apps. No data leaves your computer.

When displaying album artwork in notifications, the app downloads the image directly from Spotify's servers. This is the same artwork URL that Spotify provides to all apps and does not involve any personal data.

Permissions

The app requests two permissions:

Notifications — To show you track change alerts
Automation (Spotify) — To read the currently playing track from Spotify

These permissions are used solely for the app's core functionality and nothing else.

Third-Party Services

Now Playing on Spotify does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.

If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new "last updated" date.
